2017 STATE HIGH SCHOOL CHORAL FESTIVAL
Over 2,000 singers in 68 choirs from 40 schools participated in the 30th annual TNACDA State Choral Festival, starting in Memphis, with 2 days in Murfreesboro and a final day in Knoxville. Larry Wyatt and Alicia Walker from the choral department at the University of South Carolina were joined by Craig Jones from Harding Academy in Searcy Arkansas to provide both written and recorded critiques and assign ratings for every choir in eight areas including Tone, Intonation, Diction, Technique, Balance and Interpretation. The judges remarked how impressed they were with the quality of choral work being done in Tennessee. Many thanks to site coordinators Ryan Fisher, Joseph Powell, Jeanette MacCallum, Kathy May, and David Stutzenberger. We are also grateful to the Germantown Presbyterian Church, First United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro, and the Farragut HS for providing the venues, as well as the many volunteers who filled so many roles. Directors and singers will grow musically and professionally from this experience. Congratulations to everyone involved for a successful event.
